Remote control¶
The miniDSP Flex HTx has the following options for remote control of key runtime functions.
Using the miniDSP remote¶
The infrared remote control provided with the Flex HTx controls all key runtime functions.
- Standby

Put the Flex HTx into standby and take it out again.
- Mute

Mute and unmute audio output.
- Volume

Reduce or increase the volume. Each press changes the volume by 0.5 dB. Holding down a button will accelerate volume change to 3 dB steps.
- Media control
- Have no effect with the Flex HTx.
- Dirac Live

Enable or disable Dirac Live filtering. Dirac Live filtering will be effective only on presets for which Dirac Live filters have been loaded.
- Source selection

Cycle through the available input sources in order: Analog, TOSLINK, SPDIF (coax), USB, HDMI (eARC).
- Preset (1 through 4)

Switch to the selected preset. It will take a few seconds for the preset selection to complete while the processor loads the new filters from its flash memory into the DSP.
HDMI CEC¶
The miniDSP Flex HTx responds to HDMI CEC (Consumer Electronics Control) commands. The following functions of the Flex HTx will be controlled by the handheld remote control units of the connected television and source device, provided that CEC is supported by and enabled on both:
- Standby on/off
- Volume
- Mute
The following functions of the Flex HTx will not be controlled by CEC. You will need to use the miniDSP remote (or front panel) for these:
- Preset selection
- Dirac Live on/off
- Source selection (on the Flex HTx)

Note that the miniDSP remote does not control the connected TV or source devices.
HDMI CEC is always enabled on the miniDSP Flex HTx. Make sure that it is also enabled on the TV and source.
Enable CEC on the TV¶
The connected TV will usually have a setting to enable CEC. Here is one example. In this case, we found the setting in the "General" area of the TV's settings, under "HDMI Settings".
Enable CEC on the source device¶
A connected source device will likely also have settings for CEC. For the Apple TV 4k, for example, we needed to set "Control TVs and AV Receivers" to On. This enabled standby on/off.
To enable volume control from the Apple TV's remote control, we also needed to change the "Volume Control" setting to "TV via IR". If you have a different source device, you might need to try different settings to find the correct one.
Using a third-party programmable remote¶
A third-party programmable remote can be used with the miniDSP Flex HTx. See this page on our support site for the codes to use:
Programming a Logitech Harmony remote¶
The miniDSP Flex HTx can be used with a Logitech®️ Harmony®️ remote. The same functions as the stock remote are programmed into the Harmony database. In addition, you can set up buttons for direct input source selection (instead of cycling through input sources).
The procedure is as described in the application note linked below, except that you should select "minidsp flex" as the device instead of "shd".

Android/iOS control app¶
With the addition of a miniDSP Wi-DG Wi-Fi to USB bridge, the miniDSP Flex HTx can be remote-controlled from a phone or tablet running Android or iOS (iPhone/iPad).
